Cwmbran, Torfaen, Wales: Old Photos & Films

 Step back in time with fascinating old images of Cwmbran, Wales.

In 1949, local government planners designated the villages of Old Cwmbran, Pontnewydd, Upper Cwmbran, Henllys, Croesyceiliog, Llantarnam, and Llanyrafon as the starting point for the new town of Cwmbran. With new housing and industrial estates swelling the number of local residents, this corner of the South Wales Coalfield became the sixth largest urban area of Wales. It's now home to roughly 50,000 people.

Photos of Industrial Sites 1980s/1990s

In the 1980s and early 1990s, an amateur photographer took photographs of a number of disused industrial sites and associated settlements around South East Wales.

Locations included Cwmbran, Pontypool, Blaenavon, & Clydach.

Since then, many of these sites have been demolished or altered. The photographs clearly identify each location.

In 1997, TV series Your Century, presented by Nicola Heywood-Thomas, featured archive film footage and photographs together with personal memories from many towns around Wales.
