Caerphilly County Borough: Local History Resources

Caerphilly County Borough sits in an area which changed significantly during the Industrial Revolution, when the economy based on livestock husbandry gave way to the dominance of coal production. In the 20th century, another vast change occurred as the coal fields shut down, one by one, and communities found a new place in the globalised world.

Are you researching the local history of the Caerphilly area or your ancestry there? Then you must take account of the local government and county arrangements of the past. Otherwise, the county references and locations of records are confusing.

Following major reorganisation of local government districts in Wales, Caerphilly county borough was formed on 1 April 1996 . It replaced the former County of Gwent and the County of Mid Glamorgan, even though these were created as recently as 1974 to replace the historic counties of Monmouthshire and Glamorgan.

The History of Manchester, New Hampshire and the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company

The story of Manchester, New Hampshire, is the definitive narrative of the American Industrial Revolution. It is a chronicle that spans centuries, transforming a vital Indigenous fishing ground into a planned corporate utopia that housed the world's largest textile empire, before navigating a devastating collapse and emerging as a modern high-tech hub. At the absolute center of this transformation was the Merrimack River, the Amoskeag Falls, and a corporate behemoth known as the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. Manchester, New Hampshire, composed from sketches taken near Rock Raymond by J.B. Bachelder, 1855. 1.
